Johannesburg - A new blog containing tales of the alleged sexual conduct of prominent South Africans is being probed by police, Mail & Guardian Online reported.
Purported to be written by a former male prostitute, the blog was hosted on an international blogging platform and had been active since April this year.
Detailed descriptions
Continues Below↓It was said to contain detailed descriptions of the alleged sexual behaviour of prominent South Africans.
Among those who allegedly paid the author of the blog for sex were a politician, a rugby star, a stage performer, well-known journalists and a prominent Afrikaans minister.
Some of the blog entries listed a celebrity's name followed by a notice saying information will be published "soon" or "within 72 hours", said M&G Online.
A performer named said all kinds of claims and allegations had been levelled against him before, and he preferred to ignore these.
Notorious claims
Another person listed denied the blog's "untested claims", but said he would consider legal steps if details of the blog became publicly known.
At least one of the people named has reported the blog's "slanderous comments" to police.
Inspector Jeremy Steyn at the Caledon Square police station in Cape Town told M&G Online on Wednesday the matter was being investigated.
However, as the blog was not hosted by a South African internet service provider, it would not be easy to establish the identity of its author.
It was being published on an international "free listing" platform, said Steyn, adding that the matter might be referred to Interpol.
Former male prostitute
On the blog, its author describes himself as a former male prostitute who decided to quit the sex industry after 10 years.
"I serviced well-known news editors, SABC [South African Broadcasting Corporation] editors, television presenters, politicians, sportsmen, singers, actors and more... It was rough sex and I will reveal it ALL," he writes.
